What is Menopause Yoga?

Menopause Yoga (created by Petra Coveney) is more than just yoga - it is a complex system that encourages women to see this transition as an opportunity for realising the ‘meaning’ of their lives, and their true mission in it with the awakening and activation of their innate creativity. Inspired by the seasons of a woman’s life and the teachings of Chinese philosophy, it views this age as the second spring. A women in her second spring is free to be herself and speak her own truth instead of fulfilling roles that society has given her. At a practical level, the yoga practice provides tools which help ease symptoms women experience. 

How does it work?

Menopause Yoga classes (normally 60 - 90 minutes long) are carefully designed sequences combining elements from different styles of yoga. Each class contains various tools - gentle movement, asana, breathing, meditation, restorative poses, relaxation, etc. and allows for reflection..

Menopause Yoga (MY) empowers women by giving them the tools to manage and ease this transition in their lives. Recognising the wide rage of symptoms, there are classes with specific focusses determining the nature of the practice. These are:

  • MY for hot flushes

  • MY for menopause rage and irritability

  • MY for anxiety and depression

  • MY for strength and power

You can also practice the menopause BRIDGE class​, which helps with most symptoms.

workshops

Menopause Yoga workshops are opportunities to learn, to change perspective, and to connect to one another, as well as to practice. The 3-4 hour events consist of a presentation of impartial information, a Q and A session and a women's circle, and are concluded with a full MY class.
